ALI AND NINO

'Ali and Nino' is a stripped down, line of action version of the highly regarded novel by Kurban Said that has been published in 27 languages (including Braille).

'Ali and Nino' highlights the intense romance between Ali Khan Shirvanshir, a young Muslim patriot from Azerbaijan, and Nino Kapinini, a bright, witty Christian girl from Georgia. Taking place between 1917 and 1920 in Baku, the oil rich capital of Azerbaijan, the play, like the novel, is highly prophetic of the current turmoil and violence in the near East. A Romeo and Juliet story, with an underlying message of tolerance, the stage adaptation uses haunting Azeri Baliban music, dance, puppetry, mime and suggestive sound and visual effects to heighten its theatrical effect. 'Ali and Nino' is timely in more ways than one.

Ned Bobkoff is a US playwright, director, teacher and actor. 'The Man At The Piano Is Not Here' is a dramatic monologue and concert play highlighting the life of Clara Schumann. 'Piano' has been staged in the US, Germany, Austria (Vienna) and inside Manchester Cathedral.
